DIY Summer Food and Drink Ideas

Ten summer treats that’ll impress your friends — and you!

Summertime, and the livin’s easy. Actually, the livin’s pretty easy all of the time here considering it’s basically always summer in LA. We digress… This season is so ideal for hosting friends and family for dinner, drinks and dessert. Except this next time you’re not going to have it catered. You’re going to go out of your comfort zone and try your hand at some new recipes. They don’t have to be complicated. In fact, we’re all about the least amount of effort for the most amount of reward. So this summer, whip up something delicious and feel your confidence levels rise to Rachael Ray status.

PerfectPasta 2-min

Nonna Would be Proud

A summer vacation to Italy isn’t in the cards right now. Homemade pasta definitely is. Even better? You can make it in less than 20 minutes with our pasta maker, but it’ll seem like you slaved away in the kitchen all day long. Let the compliments ensue.

Korean BBQ Without the Long Line

You’ll have a Seoul-ful experience cooking up premium Korean BBQ meats on an open-fire in your backyard or dining room with the besties. If you get the meat sweats, it’s not our fault. Add some soju and let the good times roll.

Like NYC Pizza, But Better

Gone are the days when you order five large pizzas with extra pepperoni from Domino’s to feed your friends on a Friday night. No. You’re better than that. You’re so mature that you can now make those pizzas yourself in an outdoor pizza oven. Homemade dough and all. Look at you adulting so hard right now.

A Round of Frozen Margaritas, Please

You don’t have to cross into TJ for the best margaritas. Heck, you don’t even have to leave your apartment. Crank up the margarita machine and watch it turn your tequila and other ingredients into a frozen summer treat everyone will love — glass after glass.

Gourmet Without the Hassle

Steaks are delicious and all. But not if you have to make them yourself. Sous Vide cooking allows you to fake it till ya make it in the kitchen for that hot date you invited over Friday night. Pull out all the stops with this little unicorn of a culinary gadget.

Make-Your-Own Trail Mix

Before you hit the trail or pitch a tent, make your own delicious and portable snacks. A food dehydrator allows you to completely control what you put into each bag of goodness. We’re talking dried fruits and vegetables, beef jerky, fruit leathers and other healthy bites. We can hear the hiker envy already.

Set it and Forget it

Sometimes, cooking in the summer sucks. Your kitchen is too small. Your A/C broke. You’re too lazy to boil water. Instant Pot is literally the best thing ever invented. (Besides kombucha.) It’s a slow cooker, steamer and pressure cooker and speeds up cooking 2-10 times depending on what you’re making. So go on with your bad Martha Stewart self. Slay the kitchen like you were always meant to do.

If you Like Piña Coladas

But don’t worry, you won’t get caught in the rain here. It’s our belief that you haven’t properly summered until you indulge your frozen-girly-drink side. We’re not judging. We’re encouraging. Be sure to invite friends over for this little tiki party of yours. Because, FOMO.

Dinner with a Spanish Flair

When it comes to high-quality fresh fish and seafood, we’re pretty spoiled here in LA. In fact, one of the best places to snag the catch of the day is at Los Angeles Fish Company. Paella party at your place this weekend!

Homemade Ice Cream

According to someone whose job it is to make up random holidays, July is National Ice Cream month. We don’t know who designated it, but we’re definitely not complaining. When the temperatures start to rise, cool down with homemade ice cream using our at-home ice cream making machine. It’s so simple, you’ll wonder why you ever drove somewhere to get your fix.
